surrealiste view of the bami symbols

The Bamileké culture in a suraliste view bring  us back to that traditional period in general, making use of symbols to express themselves to communicate. Art been a part of their every day life had totally master the question. But it is also important to know that the notion or way of defining what is know to day as art was not the same at that period, that is the traditional African art period, before colonialism and annexation in Africa( for them art was to perfectly occupied it's function) and more again was closely link to the magic and religious nature of the people.

Which explains why their symbole had a lot of link with the spiritual world, and when  use on art work like sculpture or painting it was not for aesthetic reason but to occupied a narrative function. So in a mean of appropriation of my culture I started the series of art work name (l'homme et le Divin). Extract: What place does symbolism has to day?

extract of the series the series the man and the devinesource: Acrylic paint on canvas by tafend di art. one of the numerous art work questioning the notion of the traditional bamileke symbolism.
